Zasów is the Polish heartland of fruit tree nursing. More than 100 fruit tree and bush nurseries as well as ornamental tree and bush nurseries function here, including the farm of Mr. Krzysztof Typer. In Poland there are only two regions of this sort. Growers, wholesalers as well as individuals get their supplies from the Zasów region. The offer of tree nurseries in Zasów includes the most robust varieties of apple trees, plum trees, cherry trees and other trees as well as fruit bushes. Many years of tree nursing traditions in Zasów, commitment to work and the high quality of soil confirms the perfect quality of seedlings manufactured here.
Zasów itself is a small town in the Podkarpacie region of the municipality of Żyraków. This largest heartland of tree nursing is situated at the crossroads connecting Pilzno with Radomyśl and Mielc as well as Dębica with Tarnów. Due to homogeneous activities conducted by residents of Zasów, i.e. tree nursing, a manufacturers’ group was established. The Podkarpacie Manufacturers’ Association of Nursery Material in Zasów was entered in the National Court Register in 2002 and gathered numerous arborists. The purpose of the Association and the main reason for its functioning is the will of arborists from Zasów to work together and cooperate with other national and international industry institutions in the field of promoting progress and new technologies in tree nursing. In order to properly implement their purposes the Association from Zasów can run their activities outside of the Republic of Poland. The objective of the Association is to represent the needs and rights as well as undertake actions to increase profitability of production.
Nursing tradition in Zasów reaches back to 1879, when Witold Łubieński, an insurgent from 1863 took over Zasów. Zasów owes its tree nursing roots to the Łubieński family. It was Witold Łubieński who founded the first fruit tree nursery in Zasów. Initially the only tree nursery in Zasów employed residents of the village. However with time, thanks to the support of Witold Łubieński new tree nurseries were established and the Łubieński family became a promoter of these activities among the local population. This way tree nursing became the fundamental source of increasing wealth of the residents of Zasów. Tadeusz, the son of Witold, continued the actions of his father. At that time the first tree nursery in Zasów was turned into modern gardening plants. The Trade Union of Farmers and the Agriculture and Commerce Cooperative were established at that time. They were created as a result of Tadeusz Łubieński initiative. Family traditions related to tree nursing were continued and developed by the youngest son of Tadeusz Łubieński – Alfred. Thanks to his education at the agricultural school and internships abroad, he expanded the activities of the tree nursery with cultivation of roses.
Activities of the Łubieńśki family in Zasów can be seen up until now. Nursing activities initiated at the court are still continued. Apart from promoting tree and bush cultivation, another legacy left by the Łubieński family in Zasów is the ruins of the 18th century court.
